Fun & Exciting card!

2013 April butterfly 070 (2)

This is a fun and exciting card that can be used for any occasion.  I actually used this as a "Thank You" card, but you could easily put "Congratulations" or "Thinking of You".  It could even be used as a Sympathy card.   It is a great card to have handy for those last minute card needs.

The card base is Basic Black Card stock with a Whisper White Step Down.  You stamp any saying you like in the top left hand corner.  Then you put the Whisper White card stock through the Big Shot, using one of the embossing folders.  This card was made with the Elegant Lines embossing folder, which retired this year.  BUT, wouldn't this be cute using the NEW Wildflower Meadow Embossing Folder?

That in itself would make a beautiful card.  But, you know me, I wanted to step it up a little bit.  So at the last All Day Event, we created these really cute butterflies.  (You don't want to miss out on our next Weekend Event, August 23-25!  Sign up now by e-mailing or calling.  We are going to have a lot of projects using new products, prizes and more!  You will want to be there!)

What we did was take card stock vellum, stamped the butterflies from the Papillon Potpourri Stamp Set using black StazOn ink, then IMMEDIATELY put black embossing powder on that and heat embossed it right away.   You could also use your VersaMark Ink pad with the black embossing powder.  So, we had a whole roll of butterflies stamped.  It is easier to do all these all at once.  So, we took our Aqua Painter and took some ink from the cover of the ink pad.  You can put ink on the cover just by squeezing the ink pad while it is closed.  You never want to use your blender pen or Aqua Painter directly on the Ink Pad as you run the risk of ruining your ink pad.   So, we took the Aqua Painter and choose a color and just smeared it on the embossed butterfly.

Hint #1 – make sure it is totally embossed.  Remember, embossing powder turns shiny when set.

Hint #2 – you don't have to be perfect.  Butterflies are beautiful, but no two are alike!  So, we just started with the lightest color and decided we wanted a little yellow here or a little yellow there.  Then we took red, and when blended with the yellow created that beautiful orange shade in between the red & yellow.  Some of them we used, blue or purple or green.  Just have fun create some beautiful butterflies.  Be creative!

Then the next step is to dry it a little bit.  You will notice our new heat tools have a HIGH or LOW switch.  You want to use the LOW switch just to help the water to evaporate.

And then you are going to use the new punch, Elegant Butterfly (127526)  that punches out the butterflies perfectly!  Just fold the butterfly in half and put a glue dot on the back and put it where you want it on the card.  That's IT!

This is a really, fun card that I hope you have a fun time making it.  This is a great card to have on hand.  And if you have a really steady hand or a stamp-a-ma-jig you could even add the greeting when you need it.
