Last month we promised to show you another example using the Swallowtail Stamp (Wood 129213 Clear 129216 MDS 133011). This time we are featuring a coloring technique.
The Blue Card Stock is Marina Mist and the First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper (121878) for the background. As you notice, I love this Swallowtail Butterfly. It doesn't fully fit on the card which is great because it seems like the butterfly is right in front of you. First off, you emboss it in black at an angle. Like you learned last month, have a plan for embossing. Hold the heat tool in one place and as soon as it turns shiny, you move on to the next location. But be careful not to over heat it.
We colored it with Bashful Blue and Daffodil Delight Markers. Some people preferred to sponge the yellow instead. When I sponged, I went outside the lines so I just used the marker.
This is also a sympathy card. We used the saying from Petite Pairs and the new ticket punch attached with black brads. We used the paper piercer and the mat to punch the holes in the ticket stubs, attached the brads through the newsprint DSP and then attached the whole thing to the Marina Mist Card Stock Base. Of course, there is a Very Vanilla piece of Card Stock on the inside.
This is a pretty fast card. The only "trick" is to make sure you get the whole butterfly embossed. There is nothing worse than going to color the beautiful butterfly and have half of it wipe away because you missed embossing that area. (Don't ask how I know!) So, make sure to have a plan for embossing. A good plan is to go clockwise or counter clockwise around the butterfly not moving on to the next section until the part you are heating turns shiny.
So, what do you think? Do you prefer the Swallowtail colored or Black & White?
